The new patrol boats ?? Río Tumbes ?? and ?? Río Locumba ?? of the Navy of Peru-Noticias

On March 17, the national flag was confirmed at the Callao Naval Base and the patrol boats BAP Río Tumbes (PM-208) and BAP Río Locumba (PM-209) were installed. The traditional law marking the beginning of the operational life of both units coincided with the 200th anniversary of the creation of the Surface Force and the commemoration of the bicentenary of the confirmation of the national flag on the Spanish-flagged schooner Sacramento Victoriano and Andrés Cárcamo captured during the War of Independence. Both were built in March 2019 and launched on July 26, 2020. The SIMA shipyard in Chimbote was built using CKD (Complete Knock Down) packages, which comprise nine basic modules: five made of steel and the rest of aluminum.

They are part of the Coast Guard (SAR) capacity recovery program to conduct surface operations and search and rescue operations under a design and technology transfer contract signed in 2013 with STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, South Korea, expected to build 10 units. The first two, BAP Río Pativilca (PM-204) and BAP Río Cañete (PM-205), were launched on November 30, 2015 and commissioned on March 28, 2016, while BAP Río Piura (PM-206) and BAP Río Quilca (PM-207) did this in October 2016 and February 2017. They work on the orders of the General Directorate of the Captains and Coast Guards (DICAPI) and are also responsible for carrying out control and surveillance, patrol and prohibition missions as search and rescue in the so-called Mar de Grau, in order to maintain security, defense and national Interests of the country.

Its length is 55.3 m, beam 8.5. and draft of 2.3, displacing between 450 and 500 tons. The drive is provided by 2 Caterpillar 3516C HD diesel engines with 3,345 HP and two Caterpillar C9 250 kW generators, with which they can reach a speed of 22 knots. The range at 14 knots is estimated at 3,600 nautical miles and the crew consists of 25 employees: 5 officers and 20 specialists. In addition, they can host a boarding group of 14 troops. The equipment includes 2 RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) boats and another management boat. Regarding weapons, Sentinel has 30mm according to the agreement signed in 2019 on the co-production and technological transfer of weapons stations with the Spanish Escribano M&E, a remote controlled tower or RCWS (remote controlled weapons system), Sentinel 30mm. and 2 Guardian 12.7 mm.

It was on March 17, 1821, when Victoriano and Andrés Cárcamo took the schooner Sacramento prisoner off Máncora (Tumbes) in a daring action. The ship was renamed Castelli on behalf of the liberator José de San Martín and became the first unit of the squadron. On August 3rd of this year, after Peru’s declaration of independence, San Martín decreed the creation of the ministries for foreign relations, war and the navy, as well as the ministry of finance. On the basis of the Sacramento, to which the brig Spano and the schooner Macedonia joined shortly afterwards, on October 8, Bernardo Monteagudo was appointed Minister of War and the creation of the Navy decided, with the then naval captain Martin named Jorge Guise as its commander-general (Alejo Marchessini, correspondent for Grupo Edefa in Lima).
