The new MP7 submachine gun from the Spanish Air Force Noticias

The Air Force installed the MP7 submachine gun from the German company Heckler & Koch (HK), as shown by a photo published by the institution in its networks, in which one of its members points to this weapon. Within the Spanish armed forces, the Army (ET) was the first to incorporate this submachine gun, which was also classified as a Personal Defense Weapon (PDW). As a public defense, the Armed Forces of the Special Operations Command (MOE) were the first users in Spain to be equipped with accessories and new quantities of ammunition.

On May 2, the Air Force dedicated several pictures to its reservists on the occasion of the Spanish Armed Forces Voluntary Reservist Day, one of which shows the picture of one of them with the MP7 submachine gun. This is a product by Heckler & Koch (HK) that has a strong presence in Spain, especially since the G36 is the armed forces’ standard assault rifle.

The MP7, short for the German name Maschinenpistole 7, consists mainly of polymers, weighs only 1.9 kilograms and is equipped with a 20-round magazine. The high rate of fire is characterized by chargers with 20, 30 and 40 rounds. In addition, the well-known Picatinny rails can be adapted to this German submachine gun in order to mount telescopic sights, laser pointers, flashlights and a silencer.

As early as September 2020, pointed out the possibility that it was in service with the Air Force after the purchase of ammunition of the atypical caliber 4.60 x 30 mm had been verified. On the image of the Air Force, the patch on the right sleeve shows that the carrier belongs to the Security Group (GRUSEG) of the Air General Headquarters (based in Madrid), whose main tasks include protecting the Air Force institutional authorities.

It is likely that the MP7 will also be used by the Air Force’s special forces, the so-called Parachute Sapper Squad (EZAPAC) and other units such as the Air Deployment Support Squadron (EADA) and the Second Air Deployment Support Squadron. (SEADA). One of the keys to the effectiveness of this 4.60mm submachine gun is that its high speed ammunition is specially designed for armor piercing or armor piercing (AP) made from solid copper clad steel (DM11) and steel clad alloy (DM21). or with jacketed lead core projectiles made of copper alloy (Fiocchi FMJ ZP). This type of ammunition and weapons arises from the proliferation of increasingly lighter and very protective bulletproof vests (which are even used by terrorists) that created guns that fired pistol ammunition, mainly 9 x 19 mm, like the KH MP5 or its more modern UMP variant , would have problems drilling. In response to this situation, HK developed the aforementioned MP7 that can pass these protection systems and others like Kevlar plates with the aforementioned types of ammunition. (Julio Maz Sanz)
