A few months ago, we at Defense.com informed you of the plans of the Spanish Marines (IM) to add a new model of the 8.6 x 70 mm (0.338 Lapua Magnum) to their arsenal of precision rifles to serve as the cornerstone of the natural Process of substituting people who are already in operation.
In particular, the aim was to select and purchase a replacement for the Accuracy International AW of the 7.62 x 51 mm caliber, which has been in use for almost a quarter of a century with an optimal result in terms of mechanical reliability and operational availability, and the Barrett’s manufacture of the 12th , 70x99mm, which are available for both the manually operated M95SP and the semi-automatic M82A1 models, the latter being the newer ones and beyond, the models that still have the longest running time.
In search of an intermediate caliber between the two and the joint decision other countries have already made, the Mariana Navy Infantry decided that the rifle for purchase should be chambered at 0.338 LM. Well, thanks to a picture recently published in the official magazine of the Spanish Ministry of Defense regarding the award for First Sergeant Castor, who until recently belonged to the Security Operational Teams (EOS) of the Tercio Sur (TERSUR) and We can see How this soldier shows a new AXMC rifle in FDE (Flat Dark Earth) tone.
The model in question is a multi-caliber system developed by the British company Accuracy International, which in the last few years after its takeover has also been adopted by the Spanish Army and the Air Force in small quantities, which will soon be expanded by larger quantities. It is a model of rifle specially designed for the military environment as it can withstand the harsh treatment of operations in various scenarios and in environments – such as the Navy in the case of IM – hostile. The operation is carried out by bolt action. The 27-inch barrel allows targets the size of a human torso to be reached from more than 1,500 meters away. It is fed with magazines for ten cartridges and contains numerous ergonomic and adaptive setting elements. for the use of accessories of the high-precision shooter.
The arrival of the AWMs, sure to be received by BRIMAR, the Four Thirds and the Special Naval Warfare Force (FGNE), is a positive reality in terms of the renewal of the material and, in this particular case, the inherent ability to do so with the shot cartridge. The AXMC is a multi-caliber design that offers the ability to quickly unscrew the barrel to replace it with another of a different thickness and length that requires a specific screw and magazine.
We have not received any specific data on the purchase of the AXMC by the Navy, but the picture provided is a clear indication that this rifle model, which has many good features, is already in use by IM staff. Spanish. (Octavio Dec Cmara)
