An important milestone was reached in the development of the S-80 Plus program: the switching on of the main and emergency power distribution networks of the submarine. The tests were conducted on the S-81 Isaac Peral unit, a program that begins the final stretch and ends with the delivery of the first unit to the Spanish Navy in 2022.
The Spanish company Sener took part in this project, which Navantia developed in its Cartagena plant, with its Foran Marine CAD / CAM system.
Foran made it possible for Navantia designers to define a full 3D model of the ship and get all the information needed to build it. Regarding the electrical system of the submarine, which has just been successfully tested, Foran was used to design the logical electrical diagrams integrated in the 3D model, carry out the electrical scales, the tracing of electrical shells, the interference calculation and the management. Signals that contain all the information necessary to install and connect devices.
The company’s Naval Foran CAD / CAM system enabled the development of all the detailed engineering of the project and, as a result, the generation of information for the various workshops and works. Likewise, this system has been integrated into Navantia’s work processes through the Windchill platform with the entire structural design model and the various systems and services that make up the submarine, thereby facilitating life cycle support for the various units.
To validate the systems, Sener also provided the infrastructure, where the Navantia work teams hold meetings to review the design and simulate the manufacturing and assembly processes using virtual reality technology.
The Foran system is a Spanish software developed by Sener and implemented internationally in military programs. The system has been used on Scorpne submarines and is currently being used in the design of dreadnought-class nuclear-powered submarines for the Royal Navy. FORAN is a specialized CAD tool for the construction of surface ships and submarines that is constantly evolving and includes innovative functions for digital transformation in the shipping industry.
