The inshore combat ship USS Charleston (LCS 18) successfully performed a SeaRAM missile launch during a live fire drill on April 8. The SeaRAM is designed to provide the ship’s enhanced self-defense and extended range in hostile combat environments. It enables warships to effectively engage high-powered supersonic and subsonic threats, including anti-ship missiles, incoming high-speed ships, rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and other surface targets.
