According to the company, 82% of the runway expansion and take-off work has been completed, including planning, cleaning, preparation, excavation and earthworking stages.

The paving phase began last Tuesday, October 13, and is expected to end in May 2021. All of the work is expected to be delivered in December 2021. However, Fraport points out that this still cannot guarantee the forecast due to the delay in the relocation of families from Vila Nazaré due to the pandemic.

In the area where Vila Nazaré is now located, the end of the runway safety area (RESA) and equipment to assist with flight navigation have to be installed. Here the deadline is completely uncertain and the runway extension cannot be used without this equipment.

In parallel to the runway expansion work, the concessionaire announced that it will also build a new international freight terminal, 24% of which was started in June of this year and the delivery of which is scheduled for the second half of 2021.

The company plans to invest more than R $ 50 million for the construction phases – such as foundation, infrastructure, superstructures, cover and hydrosanitary, electrical and supplementary installations – as well as equipment, furniture and the entire structure for the start of construction. In addition, the facade of the passenger terminal in Salgado Filho is being renovated, 75% of which is completed and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The concession for Porto Alegre Airport was signed by the Federal Government in September 2017 together with the concessions for Fortaleza (also for Fraport), Salvador and Florianópolis airports – the latter by Vinci Airport and Zurich Airport.

Investments in these terminals are expected to reach R $ 6.61 billion during the concession, which runs for 25 years for Porto Alegre and 30 years for the others, in addition to the possibility of an extension of another 5 years at the end of the period .
