New attempted robbery at the Uruguayan army’s explosives facility Plant-Noticias

Shortly after 4:30 a.m. yesterday, December 1st, a new attempt was recorded to secretly access the PESMA (Explosives Facility of the Materials and Armaments Service) near the city of Florida (91 km) from Montevideo. The attempt was thwarted by the use of the prescribed procedures and at least one person was discovered to have fled. Possible damage and weak points of the perimeter are assessed.

It’s not the first time this type of incident has been recorded. It was only last year, on the eve of the two rounds of national elections, that similar events were recorded, even when drones intervened. For years there have been raids and robberies in military or police arsenals as well as attacks on detention posts in military units, theft of professional weapons, uniforms, communication material, ammunition, etc.

As in 2019, when the election calendar was used, in this case the armed forces are mainly involved in border patrols and cooperate in the fight against the pandemic. (Javier Bonilla)
