Modern Russian means of fighting unmanned aircraft

Unmanned aircraft or RPAS (Remote Piloted Aircraft System), so-called drones, are not only a threat in the military sector. In everyday life we ​​see more and more examples when they are used for illegal purposes, ie for espionage, the transport of forbidden loads and even for terrorist attacks.

Russia’s Rostec has developed an extensive line of radio-electronic combat equipment mounted on various carriers and available in a variety of forms, including high-speed vehicles that can be operationally deployed on civilian targets and businesses. These systems are able to recognize unmanned aircraft of different sizes, to identify them, to intercept their control and to put them out of operation efficiently. Worldwide demand for these media is extremely high and is estimated at $ 2 billion over the next 5 years.

Practice, including the combat experience of Russian troops in Syria, shows that small and small unmanned aircraft are actively used not only by regular armies, but also by terrorist organizations and criminal groups. Low cost, accessibility and ease of use make them one of the most effective tools to achieve criminal purposes.

The above-mentioned system of radio-electronic countermeasures, which are offset by zones and targets and are intended to neutralize small and unmanned light aircraft according to customer needs, can include a number of elements that are characterized by the radius of action, mobility and the characteristics of the targets or areas to be protected . In particular, the zonal coverage of the area is ensured by the radio-electronic control system Repellent, which is developed and manufactured by the joint stock company Sistemas Defensivos.

This equipment automatically detects the unmanned aerial vehicle and the ground control post, detects the communication signals they send out, detects the type of RPAS and its direction of flight, then disrupts its remote control channels and makes control and navigation of the aircraft impossible.

The uniqueness of this system lies in its ability to switch off all control and navigation channels of the aircraft at the same time without a pilot. The repellent is a long-range vehicle: it can detect and neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles at a distance of more than 30 km. The system can be operated in all seasons, in all climates and under the most adverse weather conditions, regardless of dust, rain and strong wind.

Rosoboronexport offers an extensive range of products manufactured by the Automtica Consortium, a member company of the Rostec State Corporation, for missions to cover important objectives such as: B. Airfields, energy or nuclear complexes, etc. The systems Kupol and Rubezh-Automatica constantly monitor the airspace and create a kind of dome over the target to be protected. It is an insurmountable barrier that can repel attacks not only from isolated RPAS, but also from groups of them attacking from different directions and heights within a radius of no less than 3 km.

Similar tasks are performed by the Pishchal portable system, the weight of which does not exceed 3.5 kg, thanks to which it is considered one of the lightest models of this genre on the market. Therefore it can be part of the individual equipment of the fighter. The restricted range of the control and navigation channels of the RPAS is 2 km.
