El Salvador, the polls did what the army couldn’t in 12 years of war

Local elections for members of the Legislative Assembly and the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) were held in El Salvador on Sunday, February 28th. The victory of the new New Ideas (NI) party put an end to the bipartisan government of the right-wing nationalist republican alliance (ARENA) and the left front of the Farabundo Martí de la Liberación Nacional (FMLN).
