In the course of a single ceremony that has not been seen in China before, the navy of its People’s Liberation Army (PLA) brought three key units into service: an 055 destroyer (or a Renhai-class cruiser, as it is called NATO) , a type 075 amphibious ship (Yushen class) and an ICBM nuclear submarine of the type 094 (Jin class).
The ceremony was held at the Sanya Naval Base (Hainan-sita Island in southeast China) on April 23, 2021, under the chairmanship of the highest Chinese leader, Communist Party Secretary General and President Xi Jinping The Significance of the Event by which the People’s Liberation Army Adding 70,000 tons of first-class ships in a single day coincides with the 72nd anniversary of the creation of this naval force, which in a few decades has overtly passed Coastal Defense Force to be called to be the largest in the world, as of today it is the US -Marine.
We are also talking about ships that incorporate the most advanced marine technologies in the Asian country. The 055 destroyer specifically designated as the “Dalian”. (with the number 105 on the helmet), it is the third in its class and the second to be released this year after the delivery of the ?? Lhasa ?? is put into service. (103) last March.
The type 055 destroyers are the largest escort ships in the world: a length of 180 meters, a width of 20 meters, a draft of 6.6 meters and, above all, due to their displacement at full load of approx. 13,000 tons. By comparison, the U.S. Navy has the skilled Ticonderoga-class cruisers and the modern Arleigh Burke Flight III-class destroyers, displacing about 9,800 tons in both cases, or the British Royal Navy has the Type 45 destroyers, which are about 8,500 Have tons. Although the PLA Navy officially defines it as a “10,000-ton destroyer”, the US Department of Defense has defined it as a “cruiser” since 2017, a designation that has been extended to NATO.
With regard to the delivered amphibious ship or Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD), the type 075 ?? Hainan ?? (31) is the first ship in its class that was launched in September 2019 and began sea trials in August 2020. At the shipyards it was built at, the Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai was also completed until two more LHDs of this class were dated. The second was launched in April 2020 and began the test drives in December of the same year, while the third was launched in January of the same year. These data show that the shipyard launches an LHD approximately every 6 months, which is a spectacular example of the capabilities of Chinese shipbuilding. According to data from Beijing, the People’s Liberation Army Navy plans to equip a total of eight LHDs of this type, and a larger version (Type 076) could be planned.
The third ship delivered was a submarine-fired ballistic missile (SLBM) of the type 094 named “Changzheng”. (Long March) and numbered 421, which would be the sixth or seventh of its kind. Like its class brothers, the first of whom was commissioned in 2007, it was founded by Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (BSHIC) in Holudao. We are facing a class of ships that will make China a great power with an effective nuclear attack capacity, as each of the 094 type SLBM houses 12 JL-2-ICBM in its silos, which have an estimated range of 7,400 km, so only One of these ships, operating from the central Pacific, could devastate the west coast of the United States.
