Brazil chairs the Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas-Noticias

Last Wednesday, Brazil held the presidency of the XV. Conference of American Defense Ministers (CMDA) taken over. The inauguration ceremony of the Pro Tempore Secretariat for the biennium 2021-2022 was held via video conference. In this way, Brazil is responsible for coordinating defense and security negotiations between the 34 member countries. Chile was responsible for the previous biennium.

The Organization’s Secretary General, Vice Admiral (Reserve) Cristin de la Maza Riquelme, and the Executive Secretary, Captain of Navo (Reserve) George Brown McLean, handed the Pro Tempore Secretariat over to the Chief of Strategic Affairs of the Brazilian Ministry of Defense, General of the Army, Tsar Augusto Nardi de Souza, who assumed the position of Secretary General of the XV CMDA, and Executive Secretary appointed by the same by the Deputy Chief of International Organizations (SCOI), Rear Admiral Carlos Augusto Chaves Leal Silva.

General Nardi congratulated the Chilean representatives on their work and recalled that the Brazilian presence at the conference had been effective since its inception. This is the second time that we are taking over the Pro Tempore Secretariat. The country in this situation has the task of coordinating the working groups of the conference in such a way that at the end of the two years not only the results are presented, but also new thematic proposals for the continuation of the improvement measures for the projects. in progress, he explained.

Brazil will continue negotiations on the implementation of the Protocol of Action on Humanitarian Aid and Natural Disaster Assistance (MECODE) through a working group led by the reporting member from the United States. (Javier Bonilla, correspondent for the Edefa group in Brazil)
