Air Europa is postponing the return to destinations in northeastern Brazil

Air Europa would review its long-haul network for the Americas, which should include changes to the return flight schedule for flights to northeast Brazil. Although flights to Salvador are planned, operations to Recife and Fortaleza should begin in late March.

The airline’s return to the cities of Fortaleza and Recife, as well as other American destinations such as Cancun and New York, will be postponed beyond March 2021, according to an internal memo by the tourism-focused Spanish newspaper Preferente. Routes were previously planned for November and December this year.

A consultation of the company’s reservation system on Saturday 18th October confirms the information of the Preferente and reveals that:

FORTALEZA and RECIFE do not have reservations until March 28th. Direct flights to Madrid are operated by Boeing 787-8 aircraft on Sundays and Wednesdays. The match takes place at night. In the meantime, passengers from these regions can fly from Salvador to Spain.

SALVADOR will be offering flights from December 16, also with Boeing 787-8, which will operate on Wednesdays and Fridays with flights in the late afternoon. The high prices of the route attracted attention and cost between R $ 4,900 and R $ 6,600 for the direct flight in the study period between December and January.

At the same time, the process of taking over Air Europa by the IAG group is taking place in Spain, in which Iberia, its competitor, is participating. There is no end date for the process to be completed, especially after the effects of Covid, but the IAG confirmed that the plan is still active and that the Spanish government has issued a positive opinion. It is not yet known what the new corporate structure and route network will look like after the acquisition is complete.
