The Vice President for Contracts at EMBRAER Defense & Security, Márcio Monteiro, opened the handover ceremony and emphasized the importance of this program. He stated that the development of embedded software and the engineering involved in the process had expanded the company’s knowledge.
The modernization of the F-5M fighters began in 2005 and brought a significant technological advancement to the Brazilian air defense during that time with the introduction of new armaments and the introduction of BVR combat (acronym for Beyond Visual Reach).

F-39 E Gripen
The delegation was also introduced to the new F-39E Gripen multi-role fighter, which recently arrived from Sweden and made its first flight in Brazil on September 24th. The Gripen Design and Development Center (GDDN, Gripen Design and Development Network) and the Gripen Flight Test Center (GFTC, Gripen Flight Test Center) delivered the presentation.
The aircraft is conducting a series of tests inside São Paulo and should be officially unveiled in Brasília on October 23, the day that celebrates Aviator and Brazilian Air Force Day. As part of the so-called FX-2 program, Brazil ordered 36 state-of-the-art fighters from Saab, the main feature of which is the technology transfer to the Brazilian industrial park. Based on this aspect, the project includes the Gripen Design and Development Center and the Gripen Flight Test Center.
At these locations, Swedish engineers and Brazilians will be brought together to develop solutions that the new weapons platform needs for its implementation. According to Marcus Wandt, test pilot at Saab, all ratings are required for the aircraft to reach full capacity and meet the system requirements.
