A new framework agreement for the acquisition of off-road vehicles was approved for the years 2022 to 2025, which can be extended for a further two years by 128,373,980 euros, including the extensions planned for two further years. We would like to remind you that the previous framework agreement of this type was approved by the Council of Ministers in November 2013 for an almost exact amount (127,116,100 euros) to the now approved and of the same duration awarded to Iveco Defense in June 2015 vehicles that were responsible for the delivery of more than 700 trucks, which may give us an indication of the scope of the current contract.
According to the Council of Ministers, the purchase of off-road vehicles is necessary for logistical support both on the national territory and in the various operations in which the units of the armed forces are involved. These new trucks will complete the existing equipment and serve to renew those that have completed their life cycle.
While waiting for the bidding process to begin, it is expected that SUVs of various categories will be re-purchased including 4, 10 and 15 tons of cargo, 4×4, 6×6 and 8×8 configurations as in the previous agreement, adapted to different missions and needs of the Army, Air and Navy. These include transport vehicles, water or fuel tanks, VEMPAR platforms for fast loading and unloading of palletized loads, as well as armored and unshielded cabins.
Industry sources confirm that several international companies would be interested in participating in this tender, having recently received several awards in European countries. (Jos M Navarro Garca)
